All the Challenger 2 tanks that London promised to provide to Kyiv have arrived in Ukraine, British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace said in the House of Commons.
“I know that all these tanks came to Ukraine, there are also a lot of spare parts, a lot of armored vehicles. I don’t know if all these cargoes were delivered … but all the tanks are there, ”- leads his words “Interfax”.
In February, the Ministry of Defense of the Kingdom reportedthat 14 such tanks will be transferred to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Earlier, at the end of March, Germany delivered the promised 18 of its Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine, and Poland, Finland, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Canada and the Netherlands also announced plans to transfer tanks to Kiev.
On March 20, British Deputy Minister of Defense Annabel Goldie announced that London would supply Kiev with shells with depleted uranium for Challenger 2 tanks. She explained the supply of such ammunition by the fact that they are highly effective against modern tanks and armored vehicles.
After that, Russian President Vladimir Putin warned that Russia would be forced to respond to the supply of shells with depleted uranium to Ukraine. According to him, this decision demonstrates the willingness of the West to fight Russia to the last Ukrainian, not in words but in deeds. 25 April British Ministry of Defense reported about sending thousands of shells for the Challenger 2 tanks to Kyiv, including those with depleted uranium.
The Russian authorities have repeatedly criticized the supply of Western weapons to Kyiv. In particular, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, warned that pumping Ukraine with weapons brings NATO closer to the dangerous line of a direct military clash with Russia. The Kremlin said that European and American tanks would burn down just like the rest of Western military equipment.
