In Moscow, the Main Stage arena hosted a major street basketball tournament “Winter 3×3”, which was attended by more than 1.5 thousand players of different ages. The key event of the festival was the Grunis Cup, which was held for the 11th time and traditionally brought together the strongest teams in the country. The main prize was won by the Baikal team. She also won the competition a year ago.

Basketball 3×3 is still perceived as a relatively young discipline for Russian sports. Maybe even exotic in a way. But in fact, Russian street basketball already has a very solid history. Suffice it to recall that at the 2020 Games, both the men’s and women’s teams of Russia won silver medals. By the way, in playing sports, the Russian team at the Tokyo Olympics with a full set, that is, both men’s and women’s teams, was represented only in 3×3 basketball and volleyball. So it is not surprising that in reality 3×3 basketball gathers an audience in Russia, which could be seen during the Winter 3×3 tournament in Moscow, in which more than 1.5 thousand athletes took part.

The two-day tournament, organized by the Streetbasket Russia Association and the Department of Sports of the City of Moscow, was, in fact, more of a street basketball festival. After all, in addition to the “main dish”, namely the Grunis Cup, it also included children’s and youth competitions, and a mass tournament held in 22 categories at once.

In total, about 250 teams from Moscow, Moscow region, Minsk, St. Petersburg, Khabarovsk, Orel, Nizhny Novgorod, Bryansk, Tula, Ivanovo, Kazan, Kaluga, Kursk, Ryazan, Samara, Tver and Perm.

There was even a separate wrestball tournament. This is such a hybrid of wrestling and basketball, so it is not surprising that teams from the North Caucasus were out of competition here. And, of course, the traditional for any basketball show competition for throws into the ring from above (here the jury recognized Ilya Gerasimov, representing the team from Petrozavodsk, as the best).

But as already mentioned, the main event of the festival was the Grunis Cup. The tournament is not young, it was held for the 11th time and steadily gathers the strongest teams in Russia. This tournament was no exception. 12 teams took part in it, including Inanomo (Moscow, champion and winner of the Russian Cup), Runa (Moscow, winner of the regular season of the last Russian championship), Gagarin (Khimki), TsOP Bad Boys ( Petersburg), Baikal (Moscow, winner of last year’s Grunis Cup) and even the Belarusian national team.

Baikal and TsOP Bad Boys met in the final. The Moscow team turned out to be stronger, which received 200 thousand rubles for this. and a ticket to the Moscow Open 2023, the main event of the summer season in 3×3 basketball in Russia.

“TsOP Bad Boys” was content with a prize of 100 thousand rubles. and the right to compete at the Red Square Cup in March.
