Alibaba introduced its own model of generative AI

The Chinese Alibaba Group presented its own model of generative artificial intelligence, announcing its integration into all applications of the company in the future, writes Reuters.

In the demonstration, the model, dubbed Tongyi Qianwen (The Truth from a Thousand Questions), drafted invitation letters, mapped out travel itineraries, and gave beauty tips. AI will be initially integrated into the DingTalk messenger, and then into the Tmall Genie voice assistant.

According to Alibaba CEO Daniel Zhang, the development will greatly change the way people work and live.

As noted by Reuters, shortly after the presentation, the Chinese regulator published a draft regulation describing the regulation of generative AI. In particular, content created in this way must comply with “core socialist values” as well as data security and personal information protection laws. Violation of the rules, which will end public comment by May 10, could result in fines and criminal penalties.

Earlier in Italy, the authorities temporarily restricted access to ChatGPT, an OpenAI intelligent chatbot based on the GPT-3.5 language model. The country’s regulator said there was “no legal framework that justifies the massive collection and storage of personal data for the purpose of ‘learning’ the algorithms that underlie the operation of the platform.”

Prior to this, the non-profit organization Future of Life published a letter calling for an “immediate suspension” of AI systems training. This was signed by SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, philanthropist Andrew Yang, and about a thousand other researchers. “AI systems should only be developed when we are confident that their effects will be positive and the risks manageable,” the organization said in a statement.

ChatGPT is able to perform a variety of tasks: write poetry, scripts, resumes and letters of recommendation, conduct a meaningful dialogue, prepare a draft standard contract with an employee or counterparty, etc.
