“Alexander Ovechkin doesn’t leave business stories behind” – Kommersant FM

Alexander Ovechkin topped the list of the highest paid NHL players for the first time. According to Forbes, the 38-year-old Russian striker shared first place with Canadian Nathan MacKinnon, a Minnesota forward who is ten years younger than Ovechkin. Alexander Ovechkin, under contract with the Washington Capitals, earns $12.5 million a year. There are significantly higher salaries in the NHL. The same Canadian MacKinnon will receive $16.5 million from Minnesota. But if you look at the income of hockey players off the ice, Ovechkin is ahead of many of his colleagues: Alexander has his own brand of clothing and breakfast cereals, not to mention advertising stories.

Not long ago, one of the Russian banks rolled out $500 thousand to Ovechkin for participating in the campaign. This year, the player’s off-ice income amounted to $5 million, which allowed him to lead the ranking of the highest paid players in the league.

However, the Russian is just as successful in his sports career. For example, last season he scored 50 goals, and all the talk about Ovechkin not getting any younger has virtually no effect on his performance.

Even if we make allowances for his age, Ovechkin is definitely not overpaid at the Washington Capitals, sports expert Igor Larin noted: “We in Russia underestimate him a little. The Russian man, the legionnaire, has never been able to realize himself 200% and fit into these North American technologies.

I met with Ovechkin in the Russian national team for several years and I can say that such a slightly rustic image hides a deeply competent person. He pays great attention to detail in both everyday and sports life. So he absolutely deserves every cent he gets paid in the NHL.”

According to his contract with the Washington Capitals, Alexander Ovechkin must play for three more seasons. And now one of the most common questions fans ask when it comes to the star striker is: can he break Wayne Gretzky’s famous record?

The Canadian scored 894 goals during his NHL career, the Russian forward has not much left to reach this figure – 72. Considering that 50 goals per season for Ovechkin is the norm, then, in theory, the record should fall.

There is, of course, a “but” in this story. Previously they said that Alexander could be hampered by injuries, but now other difficulties await the striker, Igor Larin is sure: “The most dangerous thing is the factor of the press and politics. Canada really doesn’t want to lose its main record.

First of all, Ovechkin needs to be wary of this media attack, which will definitely happen.”

Ovechkin himself has a philosophical attitude towards everything that is happening and in one of his last interviews he assured fans that he was not going to give up hockey.

Despite the busy training schedule, the athlete also does not leave a business story behind. For example, not long ago he registered an individual entrepreneur in Russia, which should be engaged in the wholesale sale of toys, bicycles, sporting goods… The list is long. So the player is definitely going to do business in his homeland.

In the meantime, Ovechkin is preparing for the next NHL season, which starts on October 11. The Washington Capitals play their first match later, on the night of October 14-15 against Pittsburgh, where, by the way, Evgeni Malkin, who is now 37 years old, is still on the ice.

True, you can now watch broadcasts of NHL matches either on the websites of official bookmakers or on various kinds of pirated platforms. But such a start to the season, even with all the difficulties, will definitely not go unnoticed by the fans.
