On December 14, Russian President Vladimir Putin summed up the year in a new format, combining an annual direct line and a press conference. The head of state answered questions about the Northern Military District, the economy, the social sphere, etc.
The topic is commented on by Alexander Monyakov, deputy of the Tver City Duma, Head of the MGER, director of the Olympic reserve school:
– For me, as the director of the Olympic reserve school and the Head of the Tver regional branch of the Young Guard of United Russia, the topic of sports and patriotic education of youth is a pressing issue. As the head of our state Vladimir Putin very accurately noted, “sport is outside of politics.” The IOC chose the wrong strategy, following Western “trends” by transferring sport to the political plane. Russia, as our President correctly noted, does not agree that the participation of our athletes in international competitions should depend on the opinions of some states and the political situation in the world. Sport is designed to unite people and give all athletes the opportunity to take part in large-scale, significant competitions.
“Under the leadership of our President, Russia has returned to the status of a great power, is confidently moving along the path of sovereign development, and is becoming stronger every year,” said Igor Rudenya, Governor of the Tver Region.
