The diplomat went to Cuba immediately after the hot phase of the Cuban missile crisis

On April 3, Alexander Sergeevich Dzasokhov celebrates his 90th birthday. Diplomat, member of the last Politburo of the CPSU Central Committee, State Duma deputy, President of North Ossetia, senator of the Federation Council… His career is an example of how to always remain at the forefront without losing professionalism and his human qualities.

Since the young man from the North Ossetian city of Alagir was sent to work in Moscow through the Komsomol in the late 50s, his path has only been upward. He was sent to Cuba to assist the young state immediately after the hot phase of the Cuban Missile Crisis, then took a leading position in the Soviet Solidarity Committee of Asian and African Countries, through which contacts were made with the national liberation movements of the world. In this post in 1967, he found himself in Egypt at the height of the six-day Arab-Israeli war, where he had to diplomatically extinguish “anti-Soviet” sentiments. Already in the late 80s, as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the USSR to the Syrian Arab Republic, Dzasokhov laid the foundation for strong Russian-Syrian relations. This was facilitated by his personal friendship with the legendary Syrian leader Hafez Assad, the father of the current President of Syria… More than 28 years in the foreign policy field are worth a lot. When the residents of North Ossetia elected a new president in 1998, Alexander Dzasokhov received 77% of the votes of his fellow countrymen. The republic remembered his two-year leadership of the region in 1988–1990 as the first secretary of the North Ossetian regional committee of the CPSU. And they preferred to entrust the republic to him. Despite his advanced age, Alexander Dzasokhov still leads an active life. His experience is considered invaluable by the Russian Foreign Ministry, the Russian Commission for UNESCO, the Russian Academy of Arts, and the Russkiy Mir Foundation, with which he cooperates. On the eve of the anniversary, the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Foreign Ministry awarded Alexander Dzasokhov the title of honorary doctor “For outstanding contribution to upholding the state interests of Russia in the international arena.” The editors of “MK” join in congratulating the politician, philosopher, doctor of political sciences, author of books Alexander Sergeevich Dzasokhov on his anniversary. Long active life to you.
