The Russian cross-country skiing championship started today in Malinovka. 78 athletes took part in the men’s sprint start

According to the results of the qualifying race, Savely Korostelev and Alexander Bolshunov entered the top thirty from the Arkhangelsk region, taking second and third places, respectively. The winner of the preliminary race was Andrey Melnichenko from the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug.

The regional Ministry of Sports noted that both athletes passed the qualifying stages of the quarterfinals and semifinals, and then reached the finals. In the decisive race, a desperate struggle lasted until the last meters. And yet, Alexander Bolshunov confirmed the title of “king of skis” and was the first to cross the finish line. This is the athlete’s 22nd victory this season.

— I’ve been recovering for the last week, I even had thoughts of missing the first races. But I decided to start anyway, and everything turned out well. I’m glad to win and grateful to the fans for their support,” said Alexander Bolshunov at the award ceremony.

As Governor of the Arkhangelsk Region Alexander Tsybulsky noted in his Telegram channel, this victory was the second for the Pomorye team today. Earlier in the women’s sprint, Veronika Stepanova was the strongest.
