Aleksander Čeferin was elected president of UEFA for the third time

The President of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), Slovenian Aleksandar Čeferin, has been elected head of the organization for a new four-year term. Voting in the election of the head of UEFA took place on a non-alternative basis.
The decision to extend the powers of Alexander Ceferin, who has been in charge of the Union of European Football Associations since 2016, was made in Lisbon at the 47th UEFA Congress. Only Mr. Čeferin put forward his candidacy for the presidency of UEFA, he did not have a single competitor.
“This is a great honor, but an even greater responsibility in relation to football. I will do everything not to disappoint, ”said the head of the Union after re-election (quote from the official website UEFA).
Mr. Čeferin is the seventh president of UEFA. The 55-year-old functionary headed the organization after the resignation of former French striker Michel Platini, who became involved in a corruption scandal and was suspended from football activities.
Before heading UEFA, Čeferin led the Slovenian National Football Association (since 2011) and was Vice President of the Legal Committee of the Union of European Football Associations (2011-2016).
