Associated with Al-Qaeda (banned in the Russian Federation), the Jamaat Nusrat Al-Islam Wal-Muslimin (JNIM) group announced a major clash with the Islamic State (organization banned in the Russian Federation) in Mali. Jihadists killed more than 60 IS fighters in a shootout on March 1 in Menaka district, according to a statement by JNIM.
The MTO also acknowledged the loss of several members of the group. No photo or video materials confirming the fact of clashes between two groups competing for influence in the Sahel region have been published by DNIM resources.
At the end of January, it was in the district of Menaka that the leader of the JNIM personally took the oath of allegiance from representatives of several tribes of Mali.
The Islamic State has so far remained silent on the incident in Mali. Today, MTO propagandists published photos of the results of the attack on DNIM militants in Burkina Faso, which took place in early January. Then, during a shootout in the province of Gurma, the jihadists eliminated more than twenty competitors.
