Al-Jazeera: Niger rebel leader agrees to talks with ECOWAS

Chairman of the National Council for the Salvation of the Motherland (NCSR), General Abdurahman Tchiani, agreed to direct negotiations with the Economic Community of West African Countries (ECOWAS). This is reported by the TV channel Al Jazeera with reference to the country’s new prime minister, Lamin Zein Ali Mahamana.
According to the politician, the dates can be determined in the coming days. The place of the meeting was proposed to be chosen by the representatives of ECOWAS.
The country’s new prime minister added that the new government intends to engage in dialogue with ECOWAS leaders so that “peace continues to reign in our region.”
Earlier, the head of the rebels, Abdurahman Tchiani, said that the coup d’état in Niger saved not only their country, but also neighboring Nigeria from disaster.
