The Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa supported the admission of Russians and Belarusians to the Olympics-24 in Paris
On March 4, the African Olympic Committees adopted a resolution supporting the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris in a neutral status.
The Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), after consultations with IOC members, international sports federations, National Olympic Committees (NOCs) and athlete communities, issued a statement on January 25, which spoke about the possibility for Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in international tournaments, including Asian Qualifiers for the Summer Olympics 24 in Paris. But only as neutral, without flags and anthems, and only after passing the commissions on cleanliness from doping and signing a refusal to support the CBO and the entire policy of their countries.
The Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) adopted a resolution to support Russian and Belarusian athletes after a meeting in the Mauritanian capital of Nouakchott on March 4, as ANOCA President Mustafa Berraf told the media. Declaring that the position of his organization is consistent with the position of the IOC.
“All ANOCA participants unanimously supported the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes in all international competitions. Thus, it is about allowing Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in complete neutrality without any signs of identity in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
Politics cannot put pressure on sport and take away from it all its noble values aimed at maintaining peace, unity and solidarity. In no case should athletes be held responsible and pay such a high price for conflicts, whatever they are and wherever they take place, ”the ANOCA said in a statement.
This resolution reaffirmed the ANOCA statement published on the organization’s website on January 26, 2023. In which, on behalf of its President, Mustafa Berraf, it was stated that “after very extensive consultations with all stakeholders of the African Olympic and Sports Movement, athlete representatives, zone presidents, EXCOM members and other dignitaries, the ANOCA Executive Committee unanimously decided to support the participation of athletes with a Russian or Belarusian passport in all sporting events in a neutral status.
The 33rd Summer Olympic Games in Paris will be held from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
