Afghan delegation to arrive in Moscow for talks on oil supplies

A delegation from the Afghan government, appointed by the Taliban movement (an organization recognized as terrorist and banned in Russia), will arrive in Moscow on August 15 for negotiations on the purchase of Russian oil and grain. About this “RIA Novosti” informed Russian Ambassador to Kabul Dmitry Zhirnov.
The delegation will be headed by Minister of Industry and Trade of Afghanistan Nuriddin Azizi.
“The delegation also includes economists and financiers. The Afghans are planning to purchase oil, other types of fuel, wheat, flour, sunflower oil,” the ambassador said. Representatives of Afghanistan are also going to visit Kazan.
On May 13, Afghan Chargé d’Affaires a.i. in Moscow, Jamal Nasir Garwal, said that the country intends to expand economic cooperation with Russia, especially on gas and oil purchases. Russian President Vladimir Putin approved the allocation of a certain amount of grain to Afghanistan if necessary, said Zamir Kabulov, special envoy of the head of state for Afghanistan.
A delegation from Afghanistan took part in the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum in June (SPIEF). Then the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov said that there was no talk of recognizing the Taliban terrorist movement banned in the Russian Federation.
In August 2021, after the withdrawal of American troops from the country, representatives of the Taliban came to power in Afghanistan. Since then, Moscow has not officially recognized the Taliban as the legitimate government of Afghanistan, but is cooperating with representatives of the movement.
In the fall, Putin said that Moscow would seek a decision to remove the Taliban from the list of terrorist organizations, but that it would first of all have to be taken at the UN level.
