Aeroflot has launched direct regular flights to Cuba from Moscow. According to the press service of the air carrier’s service, flights to the popular Cuban resort of Varadero are operated by Rossiya airline on Boeing 777 wide-body aircraft. The first flight departed from Sheremetyevo Airport with almost a full commercial load.

At the initial stage, flights will be operated twice a week with departures on Thursdays and Saturdays. In the future, depending on demand, the program of flights to Cuba will expand.

The decision to resume regular flights from Moscow to Cuba was announced during the visit of the Russian delegation headed by Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Chernyshenko and Aeroflot CEO Sergei Aleksandrovsky to Cuba and as part of the 20th meeting of the Russian-Cuban Intergovernmental Commission in May 2023.

“Cuba is Russia’s key partner in Central America, and it is absolutely logical that it is necessary to further develop economic relations between our countries,” said Dmitry Chernyshenko, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation. – But also Cuba is a safe, affordable and visa-free resort, where Russians are used to relaxing. By order of the President of the Russian Federation, regular flights with Cuba will be resumed from July 1. Thanks to this step, the total passenger traffic, taking into account charter and regular flights, can reach about 150 thousand people by the end of 2023 and thus reach pre-pandemic indicators.”

“The air route between Russia and Cuba is one of Aeroflot’s oldest international destinations. The first regular flight to Havana was made in 1962 on the Tu-114 liner. This is not just a milestone in the 100-year history of Russian civil aviation, it is a story of strong friendship and mutual support between our countries,” says Sergey Alexandrovsky, General Director of PJSC Aeroflot. – Over the years, communication between our countries was interrupted only twice: during the COVID-19 pandemic and after the introduction of restrictions by unfriendly countries. It should be noted that holidays in Cuba are traditionally in high demand among our passengers all year round, and almost 100% load of the first flight confirms this. I am sure that the resumption of flights to the Island of Freedom will have a positive impact on the development of tourism and economic ties between Russia and Cuba.”

Varadero traditionally attracts beach lovers throughout the year. Thanks to Aeroflot’s direct flights to Varadero, tourists will have the opportunity to get to the resort directly, without stopping in Havana.
