The governor of the Belgorod region, Vyacheslav Gladkov, said that they plan to install additional shelters in crowded places in Belgorod. To this end, the region is testing modular reinforced concrete structures with double reinforcement, which the Russian army uses to protect personnel, the governor added in Telegram.
“In the event of a missile threat, such a module can be used along with existing shelters,” explained Mr. Gladkov.
The governor said that during the tests, sappers detonated several explosive objects near the blocks, including unexploded ordnance that was fired at Belgorod on December 30, 2023.
According to Mr. Gladkov, tests have shown that the structures significantly increase the ability to save people’s lives in case of danger. Based on the results of the tests, it was decided to install them in Belgorod.
On January 12, Vyacheslav Gladkov reported that in Belgorod, nine public transport stops were lined with sandbags, and five with concrete slabs. Then he statedthat it is also planned to use modular structures as shelters.
