Governor of the Murmansk region Andrey Chibis said in his Telegram channel, that additional checkpoints were installed at the entrance to the region and on its territory due to the influx of foreigners wishing to move to Finland in transit through Russia. According to him, border guards and law enforcement officers “detailedly and scrupulously” check the legitimacy of foreigners’ presence in the country.

“We see that the installation of these checkpoints has stimulated those who are here illegally. We see the cars turn around and drive back,” said Mr. Chibis. He also said that there had already been an attempt to leave Russian territory illegally, and it was stopped by law enforcement officers.

Governor tonight reported, that a high alert regime has been introduced in the Murmansk region due to the influx of foreign citizens due to the decision of the Finnish authorities to leave open only one checkpoint on the border with Russia. We are talking about the Lotta checkpoint in the Kola region (“Raya-Jooseppi” on the Finnish side). At the same time, the governor reported that there were about 400 people at the Salla checkpoint, 50 of whom were allowed into Finland over the past 24 hours.

22 November Prime Minister of Finland Petteri Orpo reported, that on the night of November 25, all checkpoints on the border with Russia, except for “Raya-Jooseppi”, will be closed. Since November 18, four checkpoints have been closed due to the influx of refugees: Vaalimaa, Nuijamaa, Imatra and Niirala. President of Finland Sauli Niinistö statedthat the influx of refugees is “the Kremlin’s revenge” for the country’s entry into NATO. In the Russian Foreign Ministry reported o readiness to help with the influx of foreign citizens.
