Actor Robert De Niro’s beloved grandson dies at 19

The young man managed to act in films with Lady Gaga

Leandro De Niro Rodriguez, grandson of Oscar-winning actor Robert De Niro, has passed away, his mother announced on social media. He was only 19 years old.

Despite his young age, Leandro followed in the footsteps of his mother and grandfather and starred in several famous films.

Actress Drena De Niro, daughter of Robert De Niro, wrote about the loss of her son in a social media post.

“You were my joy, my heart, and everything that was ever pure and real in my life,” the inconsolable mother’s caption read. “I don’t know how to live without you, but I will try to move on and spread the love and light that you made me feel so much when I became your mother. You have been so deeply loved and appreciated, and I wish only love could save you.”

In the post, she tagged her son’s father, artist Carlos Rodriguez, whose name is Carlos Mare.

“Rest in peace and eternal paradise my dear boy,” she wrote.

“Words are not enough to express the joy he gave us or the loss we are now experiencing with our families and friends,” Mare replied in a comment to the post.

The cause of death has not been released, according to CNN.

“It is with immeasurable shock and sadness that we say goodbye to our beloved son Leo,” Drena De Niro said in a statement Monday. “We thank you for your outpouring of love and support, and ask that we be granted privacy during this time so that we may experience this inconsolable grief.”

“I am deeply saddened by the passing of my beloved grandson Leo,” Robert De Niro said in a statement to CNN. We are very grateful for the condolences from everyone. We ask that you please grant us some privacy so we can mourn our loss of Leo.”

Leandro De Niro Rodriguez was also an actor. He appeared alongside his mother in the 2018 film A Star Is Born, starring Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga. His other acting credits include The Collection in 2005 and Cabaret Maxime in 2018, according to IMDb.

The news of the young actor’s death was met with a flood of support and condolences to his family.

Filmmaker Lee Daniels shared his condolences and said, “Drena, may God keep you in his arms.”

Actress Rosie Perez wrote: “Shocked! I’m so sorry! We’re all here for you! I love you too much.”
