Activist Yaroslav Shirshikov was detained in Yekaterinburg for posting about the death of Vladlen Tatarsky

The security forces detained the well-known Yekaterinburg activist Yaroslav Shirshikov for a Telegram post about the death of war correspondent Maxim Fomin (known as Vladlen Tatarsky). According to Kommersant’s source, he is suspected of justifying terrorism (Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). Under this article, he could face up to seven years in prison. The apartment and office of Yaroslav Shirshikov have already been searched, the source specified.

Mr. Shirshikov, commenting on the attack, wrote that he did not feel “not a shadow of sadness” about the death of the military correspondent, whom he also called “a scumbag.”

Vladlen Tatarsky died on April 2 as a result of an explosion in the Street Food Bar cafe, where he had a creative evening. The Investigative Committee opened a criminal case under articles on a terrorist attack (paragraph “b” of part 3 of article 205) and illegal possession of explosive devices (part 4 of article 222.1). Now there are three defendants in the case: Daria Trepova, who, according to investigatorswas the perpetrator of the attack, as well as the Ukrainian Yuri Denisov, who handed her the bomb, and the Russian Dmitry Kasintsev, who “sheltered” the alleged terrorist.

Initially, some media and Telegram channels linked the detention of Yaroslav Shirshikov to a post about the detention of Wall Street Journal journalist Evan Gershkovich in Yekaterinburg. According to a Kommersant source, “this line is also being worked out, but it is not the main one.”
