Acting head of the Omsk region did not include Mizulina in the list of candidates for the Federation Council

Acting Governor of the Omsk Region Vitaly Khotsenko presented a list of candidates for the Federation Council. The list did not include the current senator from the region, Elena Mizulina, said the press secretary of the governor, Mina Akhverdiyeva.
“When submitting documents to the election commission of the Omsk region for registration as a candidate for the post of governor, he also presented a list of senators. Elena Mizulina is not on this list,” she told TASS. The reasons for this decision are not specified.
The fact that 68-year-old Ms. Mizulina will leave the Federation Council, reported RBC sources. She is expected to step down after a single voting day on 10 September.
Elena Mizulina joined the Federation Council in 2015. At first, she represented the governor of the Omsk region, Viktor Nazarov, after that, Alexander Burkov, who replaced him. Ms. Mizulina was the author of a number of high-profile bills, including the fight against LGBT propaganda. Her daughter Ekaterina Mizulina heads the Safe Internet League.
