About 700 dead seals were found on the coast of the Caspian Sea in Makhachkala, the press service of the SKTU Rosrybolovstvo reports.
“On the coast of the Caspian Sea, in the Kirovsky district of Makhachkala, in the area from the oil depot to the mouth of the Sulak River, carcasses of dead seals were found in the amount of 650-700 individuals,” the press service said.
Inspectors are working on site, and the coast in other parts of the republic is also being explored. Experts fear that the number of dead animals found may increase.
The causes of death are being established. Experts from the Volga-Caspian branch of VNIRO are collecting data and conducting laboratory research. The regional Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and the Directorate of the Federal Security Service, Rospotrebnadzor, the North Caucasian Interregional Directorate of Rosprirodnadzor and other departments notified about the death of the seals.
