Abilympics Championship Helps College Students Find Jobs

The Department of Education and Science of the capital summed up the participation of college students this year in the Abilympics professional skills championship for people with disabilities.

The project is being developed on the basis of the Professional Center. It supports citizens with disabilities and helps them find jobs. Each contestant who needed help in finding a job received assistance from the city.

“Accessible urban environment is not only infrastructure. Much is being done to ensure that every resident of the capital, regardless of the circumstances, could realize their abilities and find a job they like. Over time, the Abilympics Championship has transformed into a unique ecosystem where talented professionals and employers meet. Today, stereotypes about the employment of people with disabilities are changing. Employers are learning to prioritize the professional competencies of the applicant. More and more companies are striving to create an inclusive environment in their enterprises. The city provides them with all kinds of support in this direction. Thanks to the Championship of Opportunities, more than 200 Abilympics participants got jobs in Moscow companies this year,” said Anastasia Rakova, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Social Development.

More than 200 metropolitan companies have become partners of the championship.

The Abilympics Championship was held in Moscow from 28 to 31 October. The main venue was the exhibition center “Gostiny Dvor”. Additional venues for participants were deployed at the Moscow College of Business Technologies, Technological College No. 21, the South-West educational complex and the Stolitsa urban planning educational complex.

Competitions in professional skills among people with disabilities in the capital are held by the Moscow Regional Center for the Development of the Abilympics Movement, created on the basis of the Professional Center, with the support of the Department of Labor and Social Protection of the Population in conjunction with the Department of Education and Science. Over the eight years of the Abilympics championships, more than six thousand Muscovites have taken part in them.

Abilympics is the largest movement to support people with disabilities within the framework of the Education national project. This year the competition is organized for students, specialists, as well as schoolchildren.

Abilympics competitions have been held in Russia since 2015. During this time, the Abilympics movement has proven to be an effective model of comprehensive vocational rehabilitation, which included all its stages, and has also become the most important tool for creating a single inclusive educational space accessible to people with disabilities and disabilities. During the existence of the movement, more than 72 thousand contestants of all ages were able not only to demonstrate their professional skills and skills, but also to find their calling.
