At the Tambov Region Chess Championship among men, the leader was 13-year-old Tikhon Popov from Kotovsk. He played 9 Swiss games, winning seven of them and drawing two.
The boy sat down at the chessboard for the first time at the age of 6, and at 9 he already received the first adult level in chess. Last year, he also played in the children’s Russian Cup, and this year he decided to fight with adult men.
By the way, the young champion is among the first 5,000 of more than a hundred thousand Russian chess players.
