A third plaintiff heard this Monday at the trial of Benjamin Mendy

After two days of break, weekend obliges, the trial of Benjamin Mendy (28 years old) resumes this Monday morning, at the Crown Court of Chester, to enter the third week of the proceedings. On the agenda for today’s hearing: the testimony of an alleged victim, who accuses the world champion of sexual assault in the pubic area. Facts that would have taken place during an evening at the Frenchman’s home, in Prestbury, at the very beginning of 2021.
A tough week
It is first expected that his statements, pre-recorded, be broadcast to the court, before a cross-examination, a priori in the presence of the young woman. Several witnesses, linked to this case, must also be heard. Then, until Thursday evening, the week is supposed to continue with the separate testimonies of two other complainants, accusing them of raping the left side of Manchester City. There too, many other witnesses are expected.
In this case of alleged sexual violence, the past week has been particularly significant and trying, with the offensive introductory summary of prosecutor Timothy Cray.
The latter notably qualified Mendy and the co-accused Louis Saha Matturie (unrelated to the former French international Louis Saha), presented by the prosecutor as an “assistant” and “fixer” of the player, “predators ready to commit serious abuses sex”. “For them, these women were things to use for sex and then throw away”he asserted.
The following days had given way to the version of the first two complainants. In total, Benjamin Mendy is the subject of ten counts of sexual offences, including eight rapes, which he denies en bloc. His trial is expected to last fifteen weeks.
