The difference in musical tastes almost became fatal for a 17-year-old Moscow college student. Late at night, she had an argument with her father, who, in her opinion, was playing 90s music on his phone too loudly. In front of her parent’s eyes, the girl attempted to take her own life. MK correspondent found out how close people speak about the teenager.

It became known that Ekaterina (the minor’s name has been changed – author’s note) has been raised by her father for the last two years. The girl lived in Orenburg from birth, but then she quarreled with her mother and stopped communicating with her. The grandmother noticed the tense situation in the family and took the schoolgirl to her home in Kazakhstan. After ninth grade, the girl was taken to Moscow by her father. In the capital, Catherine fell into depression.

– I didn’t want to do anything. “I lay there all day and looked at the ceiling,” a family friend told MK. – Her father took her to a psychologist. She was prescribed a course of treatment, and it seemed to help. Katya went to college and decided to study as a designer… I can’t understand this at all. She came to the capital, there are so many interesting things, many opportunities, but she has apathy. Nonsense, I think.

According to a family friend, the girl did not need anything. My father is in the construction business and has his own company. In the capital, a 43-year-old man provided Catherine with everything she needed: he rented a three-room apartment, where his daughter had her own room, bought things and cosmetics, and paid for her college education. But she snapped at the slightest provocation.

Another scandal broke out late in the evening. My father was cooking in the kitchen and turned on a 90s disco for the mood. The daughter screamed that this music bothered her. She muted her phone several times. The father did not want to give in and turned up the volume again. Then the girl ran to her room, then returned to the kitchen and tried to die in front of her father’s eyes. Fortunately, she was saved.

“We didn’t expect this from our student,” they told MK at the college where the teenager is studying. – The girl is calm and balanced. She has friends. He studies well and does volunteer work. As a future designer, she draws posters for events. No depression was noticed in her.

“The daughter is clearly manipulating her father,” psychologist Evgenia Pustovalova is convinced. – This is typical of adolescence. And by the looks of it, she has a deep connection with her dad. She made an attempt to die in his presence, which means she was sure that her father would save her. I’m sure everything will be fine for them. And the father, perhaps, will be more compliant next time.

– Could the music of the 90s provoke such a reaction in a modern teenager?

– Indirectly, yes. A teenager has high demands on taste and style. Their parents seem backward to them, and their interests in music seem primitive. It is quite possible that the student was annoyed by the pop music. On the contrary, these hits are dear to my father as memories of his youth. Therefore, we need to look for a compromise. For example, listen to music on headphones. And the daughter should offer her tracks to dad. Surely they will find something in common.
