Russian President Vladimir Putin believes that a strong and responsible civil society is the foundation of Russia’s sovereignty. He said this at the forum of the Agency for Strategic Initiatives “Strong ideas for the new time.”
“Public, entrepreneurial, volunteer initiatives are a real engine of development, and a strong, responsible civil society is the basis of our country’s sovereignty,” the president said.
Vladimir Putin noted that with the help of the best solutions proposed by Russian citizens and business associations, it is necessary to set high standards for social support, urban improvement and the supply-side economy, which itself creates modern goods, services and technologies. According to the president, Russia has all the possibilities for this.
Also during his speech, Vladimir Putin urged do everything so that the basis of the economy is not imported goods, but domestic ones. According to him, Russian companies are ready to compete with foreign ones and any dominance is not eternal.
In the civil liberties ranking for 2022, compiled by the CIVICUS alliance of human rights organizations, Russia is classified as a repressive state. Assessing the situation in Russia, CIVICUS experts point to attacks and harassment, the closure and blocking of independent media, the adoption of “repressive laws” and restrictive measures against critics of the authorities, and the closure of large human rights organizations. The authors of the rating, in addition, claim that over 19,000 protesters were arrested in the country during the reporting year.
