Like many others, sentenced to life
Konstantin Klimenko, a Moscow region serial robber and killer of police officers, sentenced to life imprisonment, petitioned government agencies to send him to the Northern Military District zone. This is not the first such request from lifers.
As MK learned, Klimenko sent a letter to human rights activists from the Vologda Pyatak colony, where he is serving a life sentence. He explains that initially the prosecutor in court asked to sentence him to 25 years in prison. In this case, the man could qualify to be sent to a combat zone. In his address, Klimenko recalls his combat experience – he fought in Afghanistan, where he was awarded a number of medals.
Similar appeals were received from other life-sentenced prisoners in the Black Dolphin colony. However, all these requests face the same fate: from the very beginning of the SVO, a ban was imposed on recruiting criminals sentenced to death to the operation zone.
HELP “MK”
At the end of the 2000s, Konstantin Klimenko put together a gang of robbers who raided gas stations. In total, they accounted for more than 30 robberies. On the night of December 26, 2009, after another robbery on the Moscow Ring Road, Klimenko and two of his accomplices staged a shootout with criminal investigation officers from the Khimki Department of Internal Affairs. One policeman was killed, another was wounded, and one of the attackers was also killed. The two managed to escape, but were soon detained.
