Church leaders, against whom the Ukrainian authorities intend to impose sanctions, are unlikely to worry about this. However, such a decision by Ukrainian politicians speaks of the sad state of their minds. This statement was made by the adviser to the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill, Archpriest Nikolai Balashov.
The government of Ukraine on Tuesday approved sanctions against Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, as well as 7 other representatives of the Orthodox clergy. These restrictions have not yet been approved.
These sanctions have been discussed since May, Balashov noted. “I can’t say that any of the mentioned persons are ready to worry about this,” he said, noting that such news speaks a lot about the “sad state of mind” of politicians in the neighboring state.
He expressed the hope that in Ukraine “possession will end sooner or later.”
“We will continue to pray for Ukraine, which we know and love, for our brothers and sisters, who are now going through difficult times,” the representative of the Russian Orthodox Church concluded. “Pray for peace and a speedy end to the bloodshed.”
