A Russian woman who fell into a coma in Bali was saved by the whole world: local doctors were confused

She was transported to Novosibirsk with big problems.

This morning, good news came from the son of a Russian woman, Elena Novoseltseva, who had been in a coma on the island of Bali since January: “Mom has landed in Novosibirsk, everything is fine!” The most difficult operation to transport our citizen to her homeland, accompanied by doctors from the Federal Center for Disaster Medicine, which included three flights, has been successfully completed. About what efforts it cost Elena’s family and why the patient had to be urgently transported to Russia, her son Anton Novoseltsev told MK.

We already wrote about the story of 59-year-old Elena Novoseltseva, a resident of Novosibirsk, who flew to Bali to live there for a while and recover from severe covid, but there the woman first had a microstroke in November, and later, on January 4, when tickets were already bought to her homeland – a massive hemorrhagic stroke, after which she fell into a state similar to a coma.

The situation became desperate when, due to the belated actions of the insurance company, the sum insured to cover the costs of Elena’s treatment and transportation to her homeland quickly exhausted itself. Relatives were asked to pay $3,300 for each day of the patient’s stay at the clinic. Otherwise, the relatives had to pick up my mother from the hospital.

Elena’s family made incredible efforts to get the government of the Novosibirsk region to allocate funds to cover the debt of the clinic and transport it to Russia. Senator Karelin, to whom they turned for help, was very helpful. The Ministry of Health of the Novosibirsk Region sent a letter of guarantee to the Russian embassy in Indonesia about payment for all days of Elena’s stay in the hospital, which will be in excess of the sum insured. But the attending doctor told the relatives that the patient should be taken to Russia as soon as possible, not only because of the financial side of the matter, but because local doctors had not dealt with such cases before.

However, the issue of organizing the flight dragged on for a long month. On February 10, Elena’s relatives learned from an official letter from their governor that the government of the Novosibirsk region had allocated a very large amount for transportation. “Separately, I would like to thank the Governor of the Novosibirsk Region Andrei Travnikov for the assistance provided, and especially the employee of his public reception, who helped us a lot, and, of course, Senator Karelin,” Elena’s son Anton told MK.

Now all the ordeals are over. Elena made three flights: on February 20, she flew from Denpasar (Bali) to the United Arab Emirates, then from the United Arab Emirates to Moscow, and, finally, on the night of February 21-22, she landed in Novosibirsk.

During these three days we kept in touch with Anton.

– At the moment, my mother’s condition is stable and serious, she endured the transportation well, the pressure is normal, all vital signs are normal, – he told us. “Mom fell asleep during the flight.

According to Anton, in Novosibirsk, the Ministry of Health agreed on a place in the regional hospital.

– Of course, after what we experienced in Bali in terms of medical care, we expect our doctors to help my mother. We understand that there are very good rehabilitation specialists in Novosibirsk. True, here rehabilitation is expensive. But we have hope for quotas. We believe in the best, we believe that everything will be fine with mom. At the request of her father, she moves her hands, which means that her neural connections are not completely broken.
