A Russian student was expelled after a dispute with a teacher and convicted of discrediting the Russian Armed Forces

Student of the Siberian State University of Science and Technology named after Academician M.F. Reshetnev (Siberian State University) was convicted under an administrative charge for “discrediting the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation” (20.3.3 of the Administrative Code) and expelled from the university. About this on Thursday, January 25, reported portal “Prospekt Mira”.

According to the court ruling, 19-year-old Timofey Chizhov entered into a discussion with a teacher about the army at a seminar. His words were recorded on a tape recorder and made public.

According to the publication, the incident occurred on October 19, 2023 during a seminar class. The student began to argue with the teacher and spoke negatively about the Russian army (the young man’s exact statement is not given in the documents). After this, an administrative case was initiated against the young man under the article for “public actions aimed at discrediting the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.” The court hearing on this incident took place on January 17. An audio recording of the seminar was attached to the case, as well as testimony from an unnamed person, according to which the student shared his opinion discrediting the Russian army in the presence of 30 people. According to the defending side, the guy did not express “discreditable information” about the army, but “entered into a discussion with the teacher.” The court, however, found the young man guilty and fined him 35 thousand rubles.

By data Telegram channel of the Libertarian Party of Russia (the student is credited with membership in it), the young man was expelled from Siberian State University for anti-war statements. At the end of 2023, Federal Security Service officers came to his home with a search and “seized his electronics.” According to the resource, the application against the student could have been written by one of the university teachers.
