A Russian married his 92-year-old aunt and inherited an apartment

In St. Petersburg, a court is considering an unusual property dispute that arose after the death of an elderly city woman.

How writes “Fontanka”, at the end of last year, an elderly St. Petersburg woman who owned a two-room apartment in the city died. It was expected that her three nephews would be able to inherit the property by law as heirs of the second line; the old lady had no closer relatives. However, when, after the due date, the relatives claimed the rights to the inheritance, it turned out that all the property would go to only one person. It turned out that shortly before her death, the 92-year-old old woman got married, and the groom was one of the three heirs of the second line, the 61-year-old nephew of the deceased. He is a cousin of two other nephews.

The nephews who were left without an inheritance decided to sue the “newlywed” in court. They intend to seek recognition of the marriage as fictitious or try to prove that the relative acted in bad faith, that is, he is an unworthy heir. It is known that until recently the man was officially married to the mother of his children. The nephews now want to convince the judge that he allegedly continued to actually cohabit with his former wife, despite the official divorce and registration of the relationship with his elderly aunt. They also believe that the deceased relative was not entirely in her right mind in her declining years.

In turn, the successful heir assures that he had no selfish interest. According to him, he looked after his aunt for several years, helped with everyday issues, and at some point decided, with the help of a wedding, to protect her from “black realtors” who allegedly began to be interested in the old woman. At the same time, the heir-husband told reporters that his marriage with his aunt was not fictitious and that they “lived as husband and wife.”
