A rocket capable of delivering a nuclear warhead was found in a dead American’s garage.
A missile designed to deliver a 1.5-kiloton nuclear warhead was found in the garage of a recently deceased American. This was reported by the press service of the Bellevue police.
The man’s neighbor reported the missile to the Air Force Museum in Dayton after his death. Museum staff notified the police.
According to the neighbor, his friend bought the rocket at a real estate auction. Sappers arrived at the scene. They examined the missile and determined that it was a Douglas AIR-2 Genie, an unguided air-to-air missile designed to carry a 1.5-kiloton nuclear warhead.
It was confirmed that the missile does not contain a warhead, its fuel tanks are empty, and therefore it is harmless.
The police allowed the man to keep the rocket for restoration and transfer to the museum.
The AIR-2 Genie missiles entered service with the US Air Force in 1957 and remained in service until 1982, designed to defeat high-speed bombers.
