“A reversal can happen not only to Armenia” – Kommersant FM

Armenia is preparing to ratify the Rome Statute. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced this on September 13. According to him, the decision is necessary to strengthen the country’s security. Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin ruled out any reversal in relations with the republic. Meanwhile, the Russian Foreign Ministry expressed a demarche to Azerbaijan due to the incomplete recognition of domestic elections. Kommersant FM political commentator Dmitry Drize sees signs of a certain crisis in Moscow’s relations with its closest allies.

Nikol Pashinyan gave another interview, this time to the Politico newspaper. The Armenian Prime Minister repeated the thesis that he had voiced earlier: one can no longer rely on Russia as a guarantor of security. In principle, he understands the essence of the matter – his ally clearly has no time for that right now. He understands, but in fact it turns out that the Russian peacekeepers failed their mission in Karabakh.

Speaking in parliament, Pashinyan explained that the country intends to fully ratify the Rome Statute. But this is not out of a desire to annoy Russia, but solely to strengthen its own security. It would be useful to remind, just in case, that the Rome Statute also recognizes the competence of the International Criminal Court in The Hague. Yes, the same one that issued an arrest warrant for President Vladimir Putin and the Commissioner for Children’s Rights in the Russian Federation, Maria Lvova-Belova.

And we also need to add to complete the picture that Armenia conducts joint exercises from the USA. They cannot be called large-scale or influencing anything, but from a political point of view they are unpleasant. Especially considering the fact that Yerevan refused to host CSTO maneuvers. And, it is believed, he may well leave this organization. This directly follows from his words regarding the fact that Russia is no longer the guarantor of Armenia’s security. Who then? West, who else? Pashinyan talks about this too – we need to be closer to Europe and America.

Meanwhile, Vladimir Putin, speaking at the economic forum in Vladivostok, assured the audience: Russia has no problems with Armenia, as well as with Prime Minister Pashinyan – no one turned around, everything is fine with us. Problems in Karabakh, of course, remain, but they are exclusively of a humanitarian nature.

This can be interpreted as follows: did we stop the fighting for you? Stopped. Did the Armenian authorities recognize this region as part of Azerbaijan? Recognized. What then are the claims against us? Now figure it out for yourself. We have been offering you different options for overcoming the crisis for so many years, but you did not listen. So no complaints will be accepted.

We will not open a discussion on whether we have a reversal with Armenia or not. Let’s turn our attention to Azerbaijan. Is everything okay with him? But the Russian Foreign Ministry expresses a demarche to its partners. Baku, it turns out, does not fully recognize the Russian elections. This refers to those areas that Moscow considers its own, but not everyone agrees with this, so to speak. And Azerbaijan is among them. It seems that a reversal may happen not only with Armenia. All is not well with Kazakhstan. And again because of the same thing – because of Ukraine.

Famous comedians traveled to the same above-mentioned territories, and it seems that after that they began to have difficulties with Kazakhstan tours. Actually, how can a reversal not happen when they say on TV that we need to create a direct corridor through friendly Georgia and allied Armenia to Iran? Maybe we don’t understand something? This is such a new type of allied relations. But the West, no matter how bad it may be, does not demand anything like that. On the contrary, with sweet speeches he lures his vicious ones into the net. And if this continues, many currently friendly countries may not be able to resist.
