A resident of the city of Kasimov, Ryazan Region, Vasily Bolshakov, was charged with repeated discrediting of the army (part 1 of article 280.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) for the joke “about Kherson”. Andrey Kuryatnikov, the lawyer of the accused, told about this RBC. The man faces up to three years in prison.
A new case against 38-year-old Vasily Bolshakov was opened in March 2023. The reason was the publication of a “joke about Kherson” on the man’s personal page “Vkontakte”. The content of the joke is not specified. The publication was made on November 9, 2022. On this day, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu ordered the withdrawal of Russian troops from the right bank of the Dnieper in the Kherson region.
In the summer of 2022, a man was brought in for discrediting the army because of the comments on Vkontakte. Law enforcement agencies drew attention to Bolshakov’s comments because of an anonymous complaint to the police. The court imposed a fine of 30 thousand rubles on Vasily Bolshakov. According to the BBC Russian Service, Vasily Bolshakov is the father of three children aged 2 to 7. The criminal case and the search reportedly thwarted the family’s plans to leave Russia and have a fourth child in Argentina.
