A resident of Khakassia was sent for treatment for denying the legitimacy of Russia

The court sent a resident of Khakassia from the banned movement “Citizens of the USSR” to a mental hospital for treatment for calls for violence and denial of the legitimacy of the Russian government, the FSB reports. According to investigators, a man from the village of Kommunar, Shirinsky District, Khakassia, published “calls for violence against representatives of law enforcement agencies” on VKontakte.
The examination allegedly showed that at the time of publication the person involved in the case was insane. The FSB said that the man’s extremist manifestations were “suppressed.” As a result, the Shirinsky District Court ordered him compulsory treatment in a medical organization providing psychiatric care in an inpatient setting, RIA Novosti reports, citing a FSB press release. The date of the verdict is unknown; it has not yet entered into legal force.
The organization “Citizens of the USSR” has been banned in Russia as extremist since June 2022. It has operated since 2019 in at least 30 regions. The organization called for the renunciation of Russian citizenship, as well as for a change in the constitutional system “to a regime similar to that existing in the USSR.”
In August, the FSB prevented a terrorist attack in the closed city of Zelenogorsk (formerly Krasnoyarsk-45). According to state security agencies, the sabotage was prepared by two supporters of the Citizens of the USSR movement. A 73-year-old and a 61-year-old man allegedly planned to blow up the base stations of telecommunications companies in order to prevent the Russian Ministry of Defense from sending out conscription notices through Gosuslugi.
