The radar detection system (RLS) for drones, which is used at the Zaporozhye NPP, was presented for the first time at the Aeronet-2035 exhibition in Moscow. It is alleged that it is capable of incapacitating unmanned aerial vehicles.
The range of the radar is up to 23 km, said TASS Head of the Laboratory of External Piloting and Operation of Unmanned Aircraft of the Scientific Research Institute of Computing Systems (NIIVK) named after A.I. M. A Kartseva Vitaly Dolgov. According to him, the radar can determine the type and weight of the drone, its performance characteristics and “suppress it.” “It’s not about his landing – he just falls, his high-frequency module burns out,” he explained.
At ZNPP, the radar works for four months. There are currently three such systems in operation. “This type is already being accepted by the RF Armed Forces,” Mr. Dolgov added.
In addition, the exhibition also presented a prototype of the Shershen quadrocopter designed to suppress unmanned aerial vehicles and disperse riots. Its range is up to 10 km.
