Cheryomushkinsky Court of Moscow in the case of illegal sale of certificates of knowledge of the Russian language to migrants elected preventive measure for the three defendants in the case. Gennady Tarasenko was arrested for two months, an employee of the Pushkin Institute of Russian Language, Marina Balburova, was given house arrest, and another defendant, Tatyana Novikova, was prohibited from certain actions.

All three defendants were charged under the article on organizing illegal migration by a group of persons (clause “a”, part 2, article 322.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). Marina Balburova was also charged with exceeding official powers out of selfish interest (clause “e”, part 3, article 286 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

According to the investigation, Gennady Tarasenko and Tatyana Novikova were looking for foreign citizens, and Marina Balburova took exams on Russian language knowledge from foreigners. As a source told Kommersant, the detainees sold certificates of knowledge of the Russian language for 5.9 thousand rubles. About the detention of the defendants became known April 9. In total there were detained five people.
