Perm City Duma deputy from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation faction Sergei Medvedev, who posted a post on social networks criticizing the special military operation and the country’s leadership, left Russia. Previously, he was expelled from the party.
Mr. Medvedev published a post with a negative assessment of the leadership of the Russian Federation and military actions in Ukraine on his VKontakte page shortly before the New Year. At the beginning of 2024, screenshots of the recording appeared in patriotic Telegram channels.
On January 11, 2024, Sergei Medvedev was expelled from the party for violating the charter, and the leadership of the Perm Duma turned to law enforcement agencies with a request to provide a legal assessment of his post. At the same time, Mr. Medvedev still remains a deputy of the city duma.
“At the moment I don’t know how the procedure for depriving me of my mandate will take place. Perhaps they will play out another case, as they say, the ways of the Lord are mysterious,” stated Mr. Medvedev to the media, clarifying that he is currently outside Russia.
