At a meeting of the Perm City Duma, a decision was made to terminate the powers of deputy Sergei Medvedev, who represented the Communist Party of the Russian Federation.

As Kommersant clarifies, at the end of 2023, the parliamentarian caused a public outcry by publishing a post on the social network in which he expressed his disagreement with the New Year holidays due to the events in Ukraine and called for a cessation of hostilities. In response, the City Duma turned to the Communist Party of the Russian Federation and law enforcement agencies with a request to conduct a political and legal assessment of the deputy’s statements.

As a result, the deputy was deprived of his mandate, citing the federal law on local self-government, according to which a deputy elected according to party lists must be deprived of his mandate within 30 days after leaving the faction.

In turn, Medvedev claims that he did not sign a statement of resignation from the party.
