A new student team will appear in the Chelyabinsk region in the new season

The Chelbasket system is developing and getting bigger every season. In the 2023/2024 season, a women’s student team will also appear, which will play in the highest division of the ASB Championship – the Russian Railways Student League. The national team will be created on the basis of the South Ural State University team and will bring together the best representatives of basketball from leading universities.

“I think that the development of basketball in Chelyabinsk is really systematic and timely. If you look at the entire pyramid of basketball, then attention was paid to mass basketball and sports schools, and the Chelbasket basketball club is gradually beginning to develop. We see what success the club had in the Premier League, now the team will play in the Super League, we see a connection with Magnitogorsk. Last year, Nikolai Sandakov and I talked about the creation of the women’s national team of the Chelyabinsk region, I initiated this story, and this season Chelbasket has gone as far as creating a women’s student team. Now this is a conscious decision, the result of systemic efforts and work with local players who graduate from schools and remain playing in their home region. I am very glad that there is a new stronghold for the development of women’s basketball in the Urals and I am sure that with systematic and systematic work, this team will soon show results. The national team of the Chelyabinsk region will become a stepping stone in the women’s basketball pyramid, which will connect players from the CYBL team and the Slavyanka women’s professional team playing in the Major League.

Earlier in the Chelyabinsk region there were three student teams participating in the strongest tournament “Student League of Russian Railways”. These are the men’s team of the Chelyabinsk region, the men’s and women’s teams of MSTU im. Nosov” from Magnitogorsk. The team of the Chelyabinsk region in 2022 has earned the right to play among the eight strongest student teams in Russia.

Last year, thanks to the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Chelyabinsk Region and the ASB, the Championship among secondary schools of the Chelyabinsk Region was launched. This is a unique project that has no analogues in the country. In the debut season, 12 men’s and 7 women’s teams took part in the competition.

Previously existing student projects (“Tankograd”, Spartakiad, etc.) are expanding quantitatively and improving qualitatively.
