VTB has discovered a new fraud scheme using social cards, RBC reports.
It is noted that attackers under the guise of representatives of social support bodies call citizens and offer to update their social cards.
Under this pretext, they are trying to get the client’s mobile number, ostensibly in order to send him an SMS notification. But in reality, a message comes to the phone number with a code to restore access to the bank’s personal account. Having learned this number, the attackers enter the online bank and steal money.
Earlier it was reported that scammers invented a new way to deceive Russians using the Telegram messenger. They reportedly use bots, which in turn replace the numbers of various government agencies and services. For example, in one of the cases, the changed number was displayed as belonging to the FSB of Russia in the Arkhangelsk region.
