The information project “Know Moscow” together with the State Biological Museum named after K. A. Timiryazev prepared a new interactive tour in the augmented reality (AR) format for pavilion No. 31 for children and adolescents, as well as their parents “Geology” at VDNH.
The route around the pavilion was created using a unique cloud technology that allows the visitor to determine their location not with GPS, but with the help of a smartphone camera. After pointing the camera at the object, the resulting image will be automatically compared with the digital copy of the building, which is stored on the server. After that, virtual characters will automatically appear on the picture.
According to the authors of the tour, it was created in two stages: first, specialists made a digital twin of the pavilion, filming its entire territory and objects on camera, and then created 3D characters – a teenage boy and his mother – and came up with dialogues for them. These characters accompany visitors on a tour of the pavilion.
It is assumed that wherever a person is, if he wants to go on an excursion to the Geology pavilion, he needs to go to the Discover Moscow mobile application, select in the search bar: Timiryazev Biological Museum, then select the section ” Take the tour” and the “Start” button. If the user opens the route in another place on the territory of VDNKh, the virtual guide will lead him to the starting point of the tour.
Tour visitors will learn who, when and for what purposes the exhibition complex was built, what happened at VDNKh during the Great Patriotic War, what cultural and scientific activities were carried out in the preserved buildings, why Pavilion No. 31 “Geology” was called “Flax, hemp and others New Lubian Cultures” when it was renamed, for which purpose a talking map was created, which minerals and rocks lie at the entrance to the pavilion.

The interactive city guide contains photos and descriptions of more than 2.2 thousand buildings, 689 monuments, 351 museums, 100 quests and quizzes, over 240 thematic routes in different areas of the capital, as well as 10 excursions with an audio guide and 27 virtual tours of the city and its attractions.
