A new concept of Russia’s foreign policy may be made public in early 2023, said Alexei Drobinin, director of the foreign policy planning department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, speaking at the conference Diplomacy in the Modern World: Assessments, Challenges, Prospects.

“Now I will say very carefully that if there are no force majeure situations, we very much hope that at the beginning of next year we will be able to release and publish this document (foreign policy concept. – Ed.). Then everyone will be able to get acquainted with it, ”he said (cit. according to RIA Novosti).

The draft document was prepared back on January 28th. This was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin at a meeting with members of the Security Council. However, many events have taken place since that moment, in connection with which “it was decided to continue work and take into account new points in the concept,” Drobinin explained.

According to him, now the concept of foreign policy is at a “rather advanced stage.” He specified that the document is being prepared for consideration at the level of the Security Council.

The latest concept of foreign policy was adopted in 2016. Among the main tasks were the provision of Russia’s sovereignty, the formation of good neighborly relations with some states, the prevention of discrimination against Russian goods and services, etc.

It is assumed that the new concept of foreign policy will determine Russia’s foreign policy for the next 4-6 years, Drobinin stressed. “So that our foreign partners, friends, opponents can understand where we are going to pedal in the coming period, and not say, as some people try, that Russian politics is unpredictable. Let’s hope that the concept will provide an answer to all questions,” he concluded.
