A rare water deer, new to Russia, ran into the center of Vladivostok
Representative of the Land of the Leopard National Park reportedthat the rare water deer, which was first recorded in Primorye in 2019 and has already managed to settle in the southwest of Primorye, probably crossed the Amur Bay and appeared in the center of Vladivostok.
The video, which appeared on social networks, shows the animal wandering through the snow near a residential building in a residential complex in the city center. Experts are 100% sure that this is a water deer, although the footage does not show fangs that distinguish males from females.
According to the latest data, about 300 individuals of this rare species have already been recorded in the south-west of Primorye. The water deer was included in the Red Book of the Primorsky Territory after the work of specialists from the Land of the Leopard. This species is the only representative of the genus Water deer of the Deer family and is highly fertile.
