A monastery in the DPR could have been shelled by cluster shells

When shelling the Holy Dormition Nikolo-Vasilievsky Monastery in the DPR, Ukrainian armed formations could have used cluster munitions, RIA Novosti source in the monastery.
Earlier it was reported that this monastery came under fire from the Ukrainian Armed Forces, and among the victims were two people, including Archimandrite Lavrentiy.
According to RIA Novosti’s interlocutor, the shelling began at about one o’clock in the afternoon, and one of the cluster munitions exploded near the monastery.
“Not far from the place where the sisters now live, there was a parishioner and archimandrite near him,” he said.
Subsequently, the wounded were taken to the hospital, while the archimandrite suffered a large loss of blood, the report says. It is also reported that there were seven nuns in the building during the attack.
Ukraine received cluster munitions from the United States as part of another military supply package. Such ammunition is prohibited by an international convention that has been ratified by 123 countries, but the United States and Ukraine are not among them.
The US decision to transfer cluster munitions to Kyiv was condemned by at least 38 human rights organizations. The American publication The Hill also notes that 18 NATO countries have joined the ban on the use of cluster munitions, as they believe that their action is too indiscriminate. The UN Secretary General and representatives of the US Republican and Democratic parties also spoke out against the supply of these ammunition to Kyiv.
