The historian said that the administration of the memorial in Levashovo is not aware of the incident. He does not rule out that the monument could have been taken away for reconstruction, but there was no official information about this, Anatoly Razumov emphasizes. The head of the Center expressed hope that the cross would return to its place by the Day of Remembrance of Victims of Political Repressions.
The Polish Catholic monument was opened in 1993 by the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland and the Polonia Society. On the cross in Polish and Russian is written: “Forgive and forgive us.” On the stele: “In memory of the Poles, victims of mass repressions, who were shot in 1937-1938. Compatriots”. Every year on October 30, on the Day of Remembrance of Victims of Political Repressions, the city administration organizes bus trips to Levashovo and holds wreath-laying ceremonies.
