A man who fought in the Donbass was arrested in Milan

A native of Italy was detained at the Milan airport, suspected of participating in the conflict in Ukraine
Italian carabinieri arrested a 29-year-old man who allegedly fought in the Donbass against the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Il Fatto Quotidiano informs about the detention.
A native of the city of Rovereto, Alessandro Bertolini, immediately upon arrival in Italy, was detained at Milan’s Malpensa airport, according to the material.
According to investigators, Bertolini has been in the war zone in eastern Ukraine since 2016. He is believed by Italian investigators to have taken part in the armed conflict for pay along with his compatriots.
The arrested was transferred to Genoa, he refused to cooperate with the investigation, as noted in the publication.
As part of the investigation, the identities of other Italian citizens who are in the Donbass have been identified. Bertolini was the only one to return home.
In August 2018, Italian law enforcement officers arrested 6 people involved in the recruitment of mercenaries to participate in hostilities in the Donbass. They were subsequently sentenced to short terms – up to two years and eight months.
