A lynx secretly imported from Moscow under the guise of a cat was caught in Marbella, Spain.
The Spanish Civil Guard seized a steppe lynx in the city of Marbella, located in the autonomous community of Andalusia. This is stated in a press release from the kingdom’s law enforcement agencies.
According to them, the animal was reported by a local resident, who said that a 20-kilogram predator was present in the garden of one of the houses. It is noted that the animal escaped from another house, which is located about 20 kilometers from the place of discovery. After the capture, law enforcement officials transferred the lynx to the exotic mammal rescue center in the province of Alicante.
The owner of the animal was found by the country’s Civil Guard, and it was subsequently established that the predator was brought to Spain by air from Moscow two years earlier. At the same time, the lynx was declared for import as a domestic cat. Law enforcement authorities opened a criminal case for alleged violation of the law against smuggling.
