A law raising the conscription age from 27 to 30 has come into force in Russia.

In Russia, on January 1, a law came into force according to which the upper age limit for conscription for military service was increased from 27 to 30 years. The lower limit is still 18 years old.
The head of the State Duma Committee on Defense, Andrei Kartapolov, explained that citizens who will turn 27 years old before the end of 2023 are enlisted in the reserves and are not subject to conscription in 2024.
President Vladimir Putin signed law August 4, 2023. On July 28, the document was approved by the Federation Council. On July 25, the law was adopted by the State Duma in the second and third readings. In the first reading of the law in the State Duma, it was proposed to gradually increase the conscription age from 18–27 years to 21–30 years. In the second reading, amendments were made to the document, keeping the lower limit at 18 years while raising the conscription age to 30 years.
