A Kostroma resident became the chess champion at the Spartakiad of Russian Pensioners

The Chess Federation of the Kostroma Region reports that a resident of our city, Lyubov Lebedeva, became the chess champion at the Spartakiad of Russian Pensioners, which recently ended in St. Petersburg.
The VIII Spartakiad of Russian Pensioners became part of the events dedicated to the International Day of Older Persons. Spartakis gathered more than 720 elderly athletes from all regions of Russia, including the DPR, as well as guests from Belarus, Kazakhstan and Finland.
Athletes of pre- and simply retirement age 55+ competed in athletics, swimming, table tennis, shooting, volleyball, medley relay, darts and chess.
In the latter discipline, the strongest player among women was Lyubov Lebedeva, who works as a chess teacher in Kostroma.
She teaches chess to young beginner players and notes that recently the Kostroma Chess Federation has begun to actively develop. The demand for chess lessons has increased significantly – and where there is mass participation, champions will appear over time.
