The Regional Winter Swimming Federation “Berendei” reports that the chairman of the organization, Svetlana Khizhnyak, very successfully took part in the all-Russian winter swimming competition “Big Neva Cup” that just ended in St. Petersburg. For the swims in this “walrus tournament” in the Neva ice, specially prepared ice holes were equipped on the Neva, in which winter swimming enthusiasts competed at distances from 25 to 200 meters in freestyle, breaststroke and butterfly.

More than 440 athletes from 6 countries – Russia, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Serbia, Switzerland and France – took part in the competition.

The Kostroma region was represented at the competition by the chairman of the Berendei Winter Swimming Federation, Svetlana Khizhnyak – she participated in swims at three distances – 25, 50 and 100 meters. And in the last hundred meters she was able to take bronze. This is a very good result for the Kostroma athlete, who started winter swimming only 5 years ago, and attended representative competitions for the first time.
