A Greco-Roman wrestling tournament in memory of Vyacheslav Tokarev was held in Barnaul

On December 16 and 17, the Altai School of Olympic Reserve hosted the 14th traditional youth Greco-Roman wrestling tournament, dedicated to the memory of border guard Hero of Russia Vyacheslav Tokarev.

About 300 young athletes from various cities and regions of the Altai Territory took part in the competition.

The competition was organized by the Ministry of Sports of the Altai Territory, the Committee for Physical Education and Sports of Barnaul, the Wrestling Federation of the Altai Territory, the Border Department of the FSB of Russia in the Altai Territory and the Altai Regional Public Organization of Veterans (Pensioners) of the Border Service.

At the opening of the competition, the mother of the Hero of Russia, Maria Mikhailovna Tokareva, addressed the children with a parting speech. She wished the athletes strength of spirit and body, sporting achievements, victories, and also thanked all the organizers of the competition for the work carried out within the framework of the military-patriotic education of youth. Then, all those present honored the memory of Hero of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Tokarev with a minute of silence.

According to the guys, participation in this tournament gives them a special feeling of pride for their Motherland and for those who are currently guarding the borders of our Fatherland. At the same time, most of the participants plan to connect their fate with military service in the future.

Let us remind you that Vyacheslav Tokarev was born on February 19, 1972 in Biysk. In 1993, he graduated from the Novosibirsk Military Combined Arms Command School and was assigned to the Border Troops.

In June 1994, at a personal request, Lieutenant Vyacheslav Tokarev was transferred to the Group of Russian Border Troops in the Republic of Tajikistan, where he subsequently took an active part in combat operations to protect the Tajik-Afghan border from terrorist gangs and armed smugglers. The lieutenant has been involved in dozens of military clashes in which the enemy suffered heavy losses.

Due to the aggravation of the situation in August 1994, Lieutenant Tokarev’s airborne assault maneuver group was stationed in the area of ​​one of the outposts, where reconnaissance revealed the strengthening of detachments of Afghan and Tajik militants, Vyacheslav Tokarev himself was appointed senior at the temporary border post “Turg”.

On the evening of August 18, 1994, the enemy attempted to destroy the personnel of the Russian border outpost. For several hours, Lieutenant Tokarev and his subordinates fought a battle with a numerically superior enemy, participated in repelling 15 attacks, inflicting heavy damage on the militants. Thanks to the skillful leadership of the battle, the border guards had no losses for a long time. When, with the onset of darkness, the militants tried to get to the post in one of the hard-to-reach areas, Tokarev and two fighters advanced to cross them and cut them off from the outpost with automatic and machine-gun fire. A group of border guards was surrounded. In this critical situation, Vyacheslav Tokarev managed to organize a perimeter defense. When there was a threat of capture of one of the fighters, he moved close to the enemy and personally destroyed several militants. Saving the life of a border guard, Lieutenant Tokarev died.

By Decree of the President of the Russian Federation of October 3, 1994 No. 1965, for personal courage and heroism shown in the performance of military duty, Lieutenant Vyacheslav Vladimirovich Tokarev was awarded the title of Hero of the Russian Federation (posthumously). In the village of Kosh-Agach of the Altai Republic, by order of the director of the Federal Border Service of the Russian Federation dated December 22, 1994, the Russian border outpost was named after the Hero of Russia Vyacheslav Tokarev.
